What Would Have Become of Us if Christ had not Pitied Us

Let us acknowledge God’s wonderful mercy in bestowing the bronze serpent upon us! Oh, bless God cordially for Christ who was lifted up upon the cross and is held forth for our consolation and salvation. How joyful was an Israelite who lay burning with his sting—when he saw the bronze serpent erected! We have infinitely more cause to be joyful for Christ, whose blood delivers us from the wrath to come, 1 Thessalonians 1:10. What would have become of us—if Christ had not pitied us and come into the world? If Christ had not been lifted up on the cross—we would have been thrown down to hell forever! ~ Sermon, The Fiery Serpants
